Some life events, that happen to us all throughout our lifetimes, are harder to manage than others. And if you’re on a very strict budget, such as living paycheck to paycheck or currently being out of work, these events are going to be even harder to deal with. However, there are plenty of ways to prepare for events like these, even when you’re on a low income and you’re worried about your savings accounts.
After all, there’s a lot of help out there, and there are many ways to prepare for emergencies that might come your way. And for the three difficult events below, we’ve got some advice for you that might just prove handy.
Moving in with Someone
Maybe you’ve just gotten married, maybe you’ve taken on some roommates – either way, the expenses might start to get complicated. First, you’ll need to lay some ground rules to this cohabitation: who’s paying for what, what kind of bank account you’ll be using, whether you’ll need to apply for credit together, etc.
If you decide these ahead of time, it’ll be much easier to deal with bills, and it’ll nip any potential arguments in the bud! It may also be a good time to draw up a will, especially if you’ve moved in with a romantic partner.

The Loss of a Loved One
Losing a loved one can be incredibly hard on its own, but the current cost of funerals on top of that can make the entire situation feel like it’s drowning you. However, don’t let yourself try to swim against the tide here – there’s a lot you can do to keep your head above the water.
Depending on who you’ve lost, you may be entitled to government grants, i.e., if you’ve lost your partner. Also be sure to look into life insurance of pre-paid funeral policies, if your loved one had any of these, to take care of the costs for you – they might never have mentioned it, so be sure to check.
Becoming Ill
Illness is something that can strike at any time, as the global pandemic has proved to us all. But aside from this, an accident or emergency can occur at any time, and leave you with an inability to work and take care of yourself for a little while.
And in this kind of situation, cash flow is going to be very hard to manage. If you’re entitled to sick pay, be sure to go straight for it – if your employer refuses, you can get in contact with the authorities. You’ll also be able to claim benefits from the government, even if just briefly, and if you’ve got insurance, be sure to claim on this for any bills, including mortgage and utilities.
Some events in life are harder than others, but they’ll prove what you’re made of. When you can prepare your budget ahead of time to deal with such events, you’ll have a much better chance of sailing through.
