Reduce the stress of finding the right home by having the right broker help you. We give you tips on getting the right broker to take care of your home loan.
Finding a home is already a stressful task in itself. You not only have to consider your interests and those of the people you’ll be living with but also your budget. A home loan is a long-term commitment. You’ll be paying it monthly for the next 20-30 years so you want to make sure you get the ideal home at the ideal price right from the get go.
That’s when the broker gets in the picture and helps you get the best home loan deal. Assuming you’ve already found the right home, the next thing to do now is find a lending company who will finance your home. A broker will be able to do many things to make the process easier such as referring you to a lending company with the best rates and taking care of the needed paperwork.
Your broker’s job basically is to evaluate your financial situation and goals and provide you with a suitable loan and package it to the lender they recommend to you.
Now that you know what a broker can do for you, let’s now move on to the steps that you can take to find the right one.
- Make sure they are licensed
An unlicensed broker will only yield more problems in the future. Right from the start, verify if your broker is licensed.
- Try out independent brokers
A fully independent broker will be able to have access to more loan selections compared to those who are constricted by their institution to a few select lenders. An independent broker will check out just about every mortgage from West Coast to Central Coast home loans.
- Check their reputation
It’s hard to gauge a broker’s track record online since reviews can easily be manipulated. Don’t just look at the broker’s page alone but ask for references. This will give you an idea of how a broker has worked with a client before. You can also ask for recommendations from friends and family. Their first-hand experience and review of the broker will be invaluable and it might just save you time and money from having to look all over the place.
- Get referrals from your real estate agent
An experienced real estate agent should be able to refer you to a couple few lenders they’ve worked with previously. Go ahead and ask the lender the same questions you’d ask if you were looking for a lender. If you like what you hear, don’t wait any longer. Hire that person and get started with looking for the best rates.
- Check out the existing financial institution you do business with
You may not need to look far to get the right lender if you’re already with a stable financial institution such as the one you’re currently banking with. Check out their rates and see if it fits with your goals. If not, don’t worry. There’s always other financial institutions that you can check out. This doesn’t have to be the first route you take. We’re shopping here. Enjoy your choices.
- Mortgage brokers on the internet should make their offer in writing
A written agreement from a mortgage broker online should include the type of loan arranged for you, the amount, term of the loan, interest rate, and other fees you have to pay. You should never sign blank forms that your broker can fill in later.
Getting a home loan is a big step in itself so it’s worth taking the extra steps to make sure you settle for the best one.
