I have been terrible in posting on here the past month or so and that has been for a number of reasons – I was away for the first week and then spent the last couple catching up on work, chasing overdue payments and taking the steps to be almost debt free.
Why do I say almost? Well, I still have my credit card to knock down (which I shall be doing entirely through side hustles as my minimum payment is so low. Obviously I will be paying more than the minimum but it does give me some leeway) but as of today, the 30th of June 2014 – we have managed to get rid of £7700 worth of debt!
£6000 of the debt was from our static caravan – although at least £5000 of that is their error and will be discussed with them over the coming months as we negotiate our site fees back. We tried to sell last year and asked them to rent it out in the meantime to keep a steady income coming in – they didn’t, we have proof of emails and we are not happy. They took so long in agreeing to sell that the bills crept up on it with no way to pay them, thanks to their incompetence.
£1200 was a way overdue bill from an energy company that I don’t even want to mention. We are just glad it is gone. Finally, the remaining £500 has completely cleared Steve’s credit card debt – so all we need to pay off now is my credit card and pay what we owe to family and friends slowly but surely. I am feeling so happy to have this huge weight of our shoulders and looking forward to seeing what life can bring us from now on.
How did we pay it? We used the money from the sale of our static caravan. Whilst we took a huge loss on what we paid and it was a fantastic place to take Jack, we had to do what was right for our family – and what is the point in ‘perfect holidays’ if you are constantly worrying about your financial difficulties? At least now we can actually start to save for other holidays too.
