Moving House Tips & Packing Hacks That Will Make Your Move Stress Free

Collaborative Post

Moving house can be such a stressful experience. We moved house 11 months ago – and it just so happened to coincide with the beginning of lockdown. We started moving on the Monday morning with a plan to finish the next day – 8pm that night we got thrown into lockdown and had to work like crazy the next day to ensure we were in on time. Now, granted, we perhaps had a slightly more stressful experience than others due to the circumstances but imagine that stress on top of an already stressful house move – eek!

Contact Providers In Advance

Let your utility providers know that you are moving before you actually move. Give them your moving date so they know when to either stop your service or to transfer it over to the new address. It can be super stressful to try and arrange it during or after the move so do it as soon as you have a date ready.

Be Brutal & Get Rid

Houses end up with a ton of stuff in them over the time we live there and we don’t want to transport them to another house if they aren’t required. This means you need to be brutal and get rid of stuff you no longer need. Go through your clothes, go through the kids toys, eat up all the food if you can. Make it so that you don’t have to take absolutely everything across from the previous house to the new one.

Use A Moving Service

A moving service is a great option if you want to take all of the stress out of the situation. These services also often offer a packing service meaning that you don’t even have to worry about that. They package them safely and securely and transport them to your new home. A great company to use is Blue Sky Relocation who offer a fantastic service.

Use Your Towels & Linens

If you are packing your home up, put your towels and linens to good use and use them as padding for your breakables. Transporting crockery and other fragile items can require a delicate approach and wrapping them in these at least offers them a little protection from breaking.

Use Your Suitcases

Got suitcases? Put them to use as well. Don’t just throw empty suitcases into the moving truck – pack them with your clothes or other items to get them from A to B.

Make An Inventory

Finally, and probably one of the most important things to do, make an inventory. Label each box so you know where it is meant to go and also have an inventory of what stuff you’ve packed in which box. You will feel so much better for it when it comes to unpacking them in your new home – no one wants to be carting boxes from room to room after moving in – get them put in the right room at the very start!

Do you have any tips for making moving or packing a little less stressful?
