I always talk about side hustles and how you need to have a few different ones to keep you going. I am always talking about how it is always advisable to have your hand in a number of different ‘honey pots’, diversifying your income so you aren’t taken by surprise should one suddenly slip away.
I currently make my living through freelance writing, virtual assistance and blogging but I also have a number of side hustles designed to bring money in as well. These include surveys, focus groups, apps on my phone, odd jobs and so much more. I’ve decided to write about a few of my side hustles in a new series so here we go, kicking it off by talking about Prolific Academic {referral}.
I have to admit – I wasn’t too sure on the site to begin with. I seemed to be getting screened out of all the studies I applied for and it wasn’t until someone mentioned how odd that was that I took a closer look. I hadn’t filled out my profile completely – as soon as that was filled in, studies popped up and I was accepted for them.
I have used plenty of survey sites in my time but what I like about this one is that the surveys are a little different. All too often survey sites can host surveys that are very similar in content to another you did a few weeks back. These are always fun and interesting to complete.
So why do I love it so much?
- Prolific Academic surveys are much more interesting than other survey sites.
- You don’t get screened out (as long as your profile is complete!)
- Payment threshold is low – you do pay Paypal fees if you withdraw less than £20, over £20 and Prolific Academic pays the fees for you. The threshold is £5 however so you can cash out anytime after that as I did.
- Payment is quick. In the above screenshot, I requested this about 3pm in the afternoon and it had arrived in my Paypal account before 10pm. Absolutely brilliant when you consider that most other survey sites take an age to pay you what you have withdrawn.
- They offer a decent referral programme – you earn 10% on the first cash out of anyone you refer.
- The surveys are generally quicker and easier to complete than other survey sites.
